Reviews
The food is simply outstanding—don't leave without trying the ribs and mustard soup, both of which are phenomenal.
The service was top-notch, attentive, and welcoming.
for Atmosphere: While the overall vibe is cozy and inviting, the only downside was that the space felt a bit tight. But this is a minor point in an otherwise excellent experience.
All in all, Cafe Restaurant De Reiger offers a dining experience that leaves you wanting to come back for more.
Highly recommend!
This restaurant was fabulous. It was very busy on a Saturday night. Lots of chatter and laughter from the diners. The food was delicious. I recommend the lamb shank. It has a fabulous atmosphere. I was delighted to see a tabby cat who made an appearance and sat very quietly next to the cash register. He was very well behaved.
Stopped by the restaurant for dinner and our experience was as follows: we ask for a table for two, the bartender/host told us it would be about 30 minutes, so we decided to wait and maybe get a drink (bar was busy, bartender did not tend to us) but we were waiting for a table, within a couple of minutes, some people were leaving a table in the front and two people came in the door after us, and the bartender seated them right away at the table where the patrons had left and told us to “squeeze in” at the bar (there was no space at the bar). I was absolutely dumbfounded and felt clearly discriminated against. I know that the restaurant doesn’t take reservations; therefore, there was no reason to seat others arriving after us. We promptly left as I refuse to spend my money at such a restaurant!
The place is vibrant. When we came mostly locals were here. Menu is small but good also has some specials (daily or weekly). The service is ok, a bit slow and moody. The food also ok. I had the ribs and my friend had the steak. He ordered medium however it came rare. We also both had side dish fries but we only got one portion of fries which was weird. There is a 2% surcharge if you pay with credit card and it is written on the receipt.
The website looks a bit dated, so I had my doubts when inviting friends from out of town. There was no need for worry. The food was delicious, refined, and served with attention to detail. Staff was very helpful and kind, and did their stuff efficiently and with grace. Price is quite fair for the quality you get. The atmosphere is great, love the high ceiling and the art deco classic styling. A great place for a quality dinner that doesn't break the bank, in a stylish but informal atmosphere. Also very helpful with allergies.
We had the lamb, spare ribs, mustard soup, and beet root salad. All excellent.
One of my favourite restaurants in the Jordaan. When I lived here this was the place where I would meet up with friends/family for dinner or have a nice meal with the other half. Staff is very friendly, and since we were regulars here they would always ask how we were doing and organise a nice table for us away from 'the crowd'. The food is fantastic and varies a lot during the different seasons. It can be busy at times but after a while you get to know the quiet spots during the evening...
A quaint, unpretentious eatery on a quiet side street. We had sea bass and spare ribs, and both were delicious. The service was relaxed and friendly. It seems like the kind of place that really cares about doing things well.
Came here for dinner as a group of 7 friends. Food was excellent. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. Lovely characterful old restaurant. I’d love to go back next time I’m in Amsterdam.
